The Dee Estuary is a dynamic system and has changed over time in response to the natural processes of climate, sea level rise and fall, tidal erosion and accretion of sediments.
The Wales Coastal Path starts close to the former legionary fortress of Chester where trading gave
rise to the growth and demise of bustling ports and quays all along the Flintshire coastline. Boat building, coal mining, steel processing and power and paper manufacture all gave rise to a remarkable coastline which also sees the great castle of Flint and Basingwerk Abbey as fiercely treasured historical monuments.
